Dwight Lyman Bundy
(May 28, 1922 - February 21, 2007)
Dwight L. Bundy age 84, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee. Mr. Bundy lived a good rich life in his walk with Jesus. He was a farmer, an avid camper and traveler who had visited almost all the states in the continental USA. He was a local businessman. Among his businesses were owner of Dixie Dairy, co-owner of Newport Laundromat and owner and manager of local restaurants. Mr. Bundy was proud of his community and enjoyed serving it in a variety of leadership roles. He was a charter member and president of Edgemont Ruritan Club, two-term member of Cocke County Board of Education, served as chairman of Cocke County Board of Education and was instrumental in building the Edgemont Elementary School. He was a long-time member of Wilsonville Baptist Church and served as Deacon, Charter member of Wilsonville Volunteer Fire Department, Third Degree Master Mason and long-time member of the Cocke County Board of Equalization. He was a very strong family man deep in faith who is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Ella Mae Bundy of Newport; three children and their spouses, Dr. Michael L. Bundy and Barbara Bundy, of Oak Ridge, TN; Margaret Ann and Charles Lital Busler, of Powell, TN; W. Keith and Donna Bundy of Newport, TN; five grandchildren: Adrian Michael Bundy of Oak Ridge; Erica Lynne Roberts (husband, Richard Wayne Roberts) of Knoxville, TN; Melissa Anne Peffer (husband, Forrest Lloyd Peffer) of Knoxville, TN; Cathryn Leanne Best (husband: Brandon Jeremiah Best) of Knoxville; Whitney Faye Bundy of Newport, TN; step granddaughter, Kristi Brabec of Greenback; three great grandchildren: Jaxon Dakota Best, Madison Leanne Peffer and HaileyAnne Grace Peffer. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm, Friday, February 23, 2007 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev, Jack Bratton officiating. Burial will be 11:00 am, Saturday, February 24, 2007 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
